Before HINA starts a single project, our team does something simple. We go and listen.
This December, the HINA team travels to meet the people we hope to work beside: caregivers, families, local doctors and community leaders. The trip takes us to the Philippines, to Thailand and to Laos. Projects begin in January 2027, and what we hear on this trip shapes every one of them.
Why we visit first
It is easy to plan from far away. It is harder to plan well. A water filter that sits unused helps no one. Supplies that a home cannot store go to waste. The people who live with these problems every day already know which answers will work. Our job is to ask, and then to take the answers seriously.
What a visit looks like
Most visits are quiet. We sit down, share tea or a meal, and talk. We ask what is working, what keeps breaking and what people have tried before. We walk to the well. We look in the storeroom. We write it all down.
We also ask who else is already helping. HINA does not want to repeat work that local groups do well. Often the best help is to back a person or a group that is already there.
What comes next
After the trip, the team goes through every note. We match each need to what HINA can deliver: clean water, medical care, hygiene supplies and shared meals. Then we check back with the community before any money is spent, to make sure we heard them right.
How you can help
Your gift to HINA helps fund the work that grows out of these visits, from water filters to rice and soap. Visit the Get Involved page at hinapacific.org to give or learn more.
One community at a time.
